Sports Days

Thank you to all who were able to support our sports days. The weather was kind to us and a great time was had by all. Thank you also to the PTA for providing the children with a much deserved and welcomed ice lolly, after all their hard work. The combined house scores for sports day in ascending order were:
Terry – 69 points
Rowntree – 92 points
Tuke – 104 points
Making Craven house the overall winners with a huge 155 points! Congratulations to all representing Craven house!

Just a little reminder that sports days are coming up. Please could you ensure that children have PE kits in school for these days, a coloured t-shirt (house colour if possible) and, particularly if the weather looks hot, water bottles, sun hats and sun cream.

North Yorkshire Cricket Finals

On Tuesday it was an absolute privilege to take the Year 4 cricket team to the North Yorkshire Finals. We represented Dunnington Primary School with true resilience, great fighting spirit and superb behaviour. We faced a strong Saltburn side in our first league match and lost 96 to 72 but this didn’t deter us and the team then went onto win their second league game against a Scarborough side 134 to 42. This meant we went through to the semi-finals based on our run rate being so good across all 3 leagues. We unfortunately lost our semi-final match to a team from Harrogate but played out for 3rd and 4th place. The children and supporters were full of confidence and were determined this one was ours! It went right down to the last ball and we needed 6 off the last ball!!! A six was scored by W and we all cheered with excitement! 3rd in North Yorkshire on a very hot day is a fabulous result.

Well done to A, E, L, S, J, S, W, and T who took part and a huge thank you to the parents/grandparents who supported the children. A brilliant day! Mrs RowntreeMrs Rowntree

Y3/4 York Schools Cricket Festival

Mini Brownlee Triathlon 2023

We hope you enjoy this slideshow of photographs from the fantastic triathlon event last week!

A huge thank you to all the children who took part in the Mini Brownlee Triathlon on Wednesday at York Sport. The weather was kind to us and the sun shone brightly…perfect conditions to experience what it feels like to undertake a triathlon…on a much smaller scale!

48 children from KS2 took part from Dunnington but over 1200 pupils from across the city were involved throughout the day. They started in the pool swimming 75m, went quickly to their own clothes basket and put on their t-shirt and trainers. A quick exit of the side door, whilst handing their basket to a member of pool staff and then onto 800m of biking round a slalom course on the grass. Once completed they ran 300m to a glorious cheer and a well-deserved goodie bag and a bottle of water.

All the children demonstrated great resilience and had huge smiles on their faces as they took part. They cheered each other on in between mouthfuls of popcorn, whilst recovering and were a pleasure to take out of school. There was roughly 8 minutes to get changed in our allotted time slot and the girls narrowly beat the boys! Many thanks to the parents who accompanied us to ensure things ran smoothly. I hope we might have a few keen future triathletes in the making after gaining an insight into this amazing event.Mrs Rowntree

Dunnington Victory Dodgeball Finals!

Dunnington attended the York Dodgeball finals on the training day before the Easter holidays. We were the only school in York to have two teams through to the final’s day. Both teams represented the school really well, displaying fantastic skills and an unbelievable attitude, making sure they were giving everything they had. One of our Dunnington teams finished as winners and the other came fourth in the competition, which is an amazing achievement! Two of the top four teams in the whole of York is fantastic! Mrs Rowntree and Mr Sellers are extremely proud of everyone that took part. Thank you also to the parents who gave lifts and support.

Y5/6 Netball Tournament Report

On Monday 20th March 2023, Y5/6 netball club participated in a friendly tournament. The schools involved were Forest of Galtres, Osbaldwick and Dunnington (Dunnington had two teams, A and B). They all played very well and put a lot of effort into it. All children involved showed excellent teamwork and resilience throughout the matches.

A special thank you to all the parents who came to watch- your support is very much appreciated. Also thank you to Mrs Rowntree and Miss Dickenson who organised the event.Report written by Patrycja, Maia and Tess (Year 6)

Y2 Football News

Some Year 2 children braved the very cold temperatures to play in a mini football festival on Wednesday afternoon. It was organised by the York Sports Network with York City Community Foundation and Huntington School Y10 pupils providing the referees and support. We had two mixed teams in this brilliant (if not slightly chilly!) event. Both teams demonstrated how well they can play as a team and support each other with some great sportsmanship on show from our own players and the opposing teams. A shout out to S and A for receiving fair play medals for showing extra resilience and effort for their respective teams.

Dunnington 2 won two and drew two of their seven games whilst Dunnington 1 won five of their matches, lost one and drew one, which was a formidable achievement. Mrs Perks and I were extremely proud of the children and you can see in the photo that they all had a fabulous time! Thank you to all the parents who provided lifts and watched in the bitterly cold weather!Mrs Rowntree
