For children moving into Y5 TE/ES (September 2020)

Hello and welcome to Year 5! We can’t wait for you to be back in school in September – we have a really exciting year ahead of us!

This week I am looking forward to getting to know you all a little better on Seesaw – I’ve put on a ‘hello’ video to welcome you all and I’m hoping that you will also share a video with me to introduce yourselves and tell me a little bit about yourselves.

There are also a few transition tasks below, which we’d like you to have a go at. We hope you have fun completing them!

All About Me!

Use the template which I’ve designed to tell us a little bit about you! There are 2 options in the file to choose from: a blank version, which you can fill out and then colour in the background to make as bright and colourful as possible; or a pre-coloured version, where your only task is to fill in the information boxes. The choice is yours!

English – Reading

Reading is one of the best things you can do! We hope you are trying to read regularly and continue to do so over Summer. There are a couple of reading challenges for you to try – one of which we’d love to see you share with us on Seesaw!

English – Writing

Have a go at completing the ‘I am’ poem all about you! You can choose to present it however you wish.

Maths

Have a go at the maths challenges below.

In readiness for Year 5, it would also be a good idea to make sure you have continued to practise your times tables so that you are really quick at recalling them. You can continue to go on Times Table Rockstars or you could also use the times table grids below, which you will be familiar with. I know you used to have 12 minutes to complete one in Year 4 – now try challenging yourself and seeing how many you can complete in just 10 minutes, ready for Year 5.

Topic / Art

Our first topic when we get back in September will be Anglo-Saxons and we want you to have a go at designing an ‘Illuminated Letter’ like the Anglo-Saxon monks used to use. Read the sheet to see what it should include!

We hope you enjoy completing the tasks above and wish you all a wonderful summer!
