Dunnington vs St Oswald’s Football Match Report

Last Friday we welcomed St.Oswald’s for our first league game of the season. The game got underway and with our first attack, Ollie made a run into the box and Ben R played a great pass to put Ollie through on goal.

Bamm!

Ollie placed the ball in the bottom corner. Our second goal was by Max. As Ben crossed the ball into the penalty area, Owen left it for Max to fire it into the back of the net. St Oswald’s got back in the game by scoring two goals in the space of four minutes to make it 2-2. Charlie M (goalkeeper) delivered a spectacular pass to Ollie who made it 3-2 to Dunnington. It was half-time.

In the second half, Zac crossed the ball into Max who tapped it in to make it 4-2. St Oswald’s hadn’t given up and they managed to score another goal. All 9 players shared the same amount of time on the pitch and it was a great win and team effort to run out winners in the end!

A big thank you to all those that came along to support us and made it a really special afternoon!

Final score: 6-4 to Dunnington.Owen and Max

In the development game a team made up of mainly year 5s and some year 6s played out a spirited game with many of the players playing their first competitive game or first ever game for the school. It was a close game and St.Oswald’s development team ran out 3-1 winners. There is no doubt that Dunnington proved that there are many promising talents and the making of a great team for next year!Mr Gargiulo

Football Report from Mrs Rowntree

The sporting fixtures are steadily coming back with some superb football being played on Tuesday night against Osbaldwick Primary. The weather was appalling and I have never seen our back field quite as wild as it was, but the boys played with true grit and resilience! Mr Scoreby were so proud of their teamwork and the skills on display were superb. Thank you to all the parents who supported their son in those dreadful conditions…. I went home for a well-deserved hot chocolate to warm up!

This was quickly followed by the Y6 girls team participating in a girl only competition at Vale of York School on Thursday. Mr Scoreby accompanied the team and said ‘they were an absolute pleasure to take out of school!’ They improved their football skills, worked as a team and enjoyed a fun morning of sport. It’s so nice to have some of the sporting competitions slowly creeping back in again. Many thanks to the parents for being their taxi service too!

Staff to run from Land’s End to John O’Groats!

Click to visit our JustGiving page!

Although it has been a tough year for everyone, two families in our school community have been in our hearts and prayers constantly over the last 12 months as they have faced some incredibly tough circumstances. Many in our community have been touched by the challenges they have faced and have been keen to support them throughout. With this in mind, as a school staff we wanted to play our part in helping them both to raise money for their chosen charities and hopefully to raise a few smiles along the way!

So, we’ve set ourselves a challenge: to collectively run or walk all the way from Land’s End to John O’Groats by the end of the school year! We will be tracking our run as part of a virtual Conqueror Challenge (1,083 miles) and keeping you updated with regular newsletter entries about our progress. The charities we will be raising money for, in support of these families, are St Leonard’s Hospice and Oscar’s Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity. We hope that you enjoy following our progress and ask that you give what you can to support these incredibility worthy causes. The Big Pedal

A huge thank you and well done to all the children and parents who helped us take part in ‘The Big Pedal’ event. The results are in and Dunnington Primary scored highly in both the National and Regional categories. National data shows we made 2498 walk to school journeys over 10 days! Phenomenal achievement!

78% of pupils walked, scootered or biked to school with 55% of parents accompanying their child to school. We came in position 142 out of 560 small schools in the UK. Regional data shows we came 15th out of 49 schools across Yorkshire and the Humber. On this occasion we didn’t win any prizes, but we did increase our activity levels and help do our little bit to help
protect the environment.

Many thanks,
Mrs Rowntree
