Active Girls

Six girls from school took part in a fantastic ‘Girls active day ‘ at Archbishop Holgates School last Friday. The day was organised by Youth Sport Trust whose main aim is to ensure ‘more girls are more active’ and to prolong the amount of time they spend being active in P.E and sport as they get older. The girls listened to a powerful presentation from Jenna Downing, the world inline skating champion, took part in lots of different activities and produced a performance with an inspirational message at the end of the day, to show to the teachers and pupils from all the other schools in attendance. They did so well! The girls will now lead a project in school to raise the profile of girl’s sport and in addition, secured £200 of funding to help with this! Go girls! Our Girls Active Team are these superstars from Year 5.

Leo & Cameron’s Match Report

This is a match report from the 2nd of December for the Osbaldwick School vs Dunnington School football match.

It started with a goal from Jack Wood by chipping the keeper. Then, unfortunately they equalised with a rocket to the top corner and two more goals, so at half time the score was 3-1 to Osbaldwick. It kicked off again with Dunnington trying to find the win or draw. Then there was an outstanding goal by Jack McClean followed by George into the bottom corner. It was down to the next goal scored. Unfortunately, Osbaldwick scored to make it 4-3 to them. Dunnington thought it was over until George scored a lucky deflection. All of a sudden Dunnington scored another one, they thought the game was theirs until Osbaldwick scored a last minute header. So unlucky from Leo Dawson. The end result was 5-5!Leo & Cameron

Y5 / 6 Sportshall athletics

SPORTS NEWS! Athletics Report from Mr Robinson

A huge ‘well done’ to all our athletes who took part in this event on Monday afternoon at Huntington Secondary school. What a fantastic experience! The children worked so hard, supporting each other and giving 100% in all the events they took part in. They really were a credit to the school.

It was a really close event (as you can see from the scores below) with some superb athletes from 6 primary schools taking part. This was only one of a number of preliminary heats held across the city!

1 – Clifton Green – 208 points, 2 – Huntington – 200 points, 3 – Haxby Rd – 192 points, 4 – DUNNINGTON – 190 points, 5 – St Aelreds – 144 points, 6 – Stockton on the Forest – 76 points.

Well done athletes, you were brilliant!

Cross country finals

Cross Country Report from Mrs Rowntree:

What an amazing achievement!! Three children took part in the North Yorkshire Cross Country event at Dalby Forest. On a very wet and muddy day, Kate Setchell came 14th in the Y6 girls race, James came 50th in the Y4 boys race and Rosa came 17th in the Y3 girls race. What talented children we have. Mrs Scoreby’s lessons are definitely improving the children’s resilience and fitness levels.

Y 3/ 4 Hockey

The Y3/4 team took part in a Quick sticks hockey festival at Vale of York School on Tuesday. They played 4 other teams – winning two, losing one and drawing the final match. This put us in a position where we were playing out for 2nd place overall. The team demonstrated great skill, teamwork and enthusiasm which resulted in them coming joint 2nd with Ralph Butterfield School. Thank you to all the parents who supported and transported their children.

Cricket World Cup

We were all very excited yesterday to have the Cricket World Cup displayed in school, due to the village’s connections with Jonny Bairstow. Emily and Catelyn from the England and Wales Cricket Board brought the cup and talked to the children and answered lots of questions about it. Photographs of the occasion will be on display in school after half term.

Cross country event

We had a very talented group of runners who took part in the York Schools Cross Country event on Friday night. It was held at Askham Bryan College and students were provided from the college to organise the huge event and marshall the children in their different age races. We had superb success and all the pupils who took part from Dunnington did an amazing job, with some qualifying for the North Yorkshire round to be held at Dalby Forest in November. A special well done to ER who came 2nd in the Y1 girls race, OW came second in the Y2 race boys race, BRG who came 2nd in the Y3 boys race, RW who came 6th in the Y3 girls race, JP who came 5th in the Y4 boys race and KS who came 3rd in the Y6 girls race. All these children will represent our school and York in the next phase of the competition. Thank you to the parents who attended this event as I appreciate a Friday night is the end of a busy week for most! Mrs Rowntree. Here are our cross country runners!
